If you are a science major, pretty much all of your classes come with a lab attached to it. As you get farther in your college career, these labs go from a one day and turn in a couple page report to a week long lab with a 10 page report due the next week. How can you keep track of everything that needs to get done for the lab itself and then all the work needed to be complete outside of the lab? How do you motivate yourself to accomplish everything? How do you get everything complete on time? The simple answer: Use Vista List to manage your lab so you can get everything done and get it done on time. Keep reading for an example of how to integrate Vista List into your lab coursework.
The first thing you need to do in Vista List is create a new project for this lab. Note: Some people may prefer to break apart the lab and the report into two separate projects. This is personal preference and can easily be done by creating two separate projects.
Now you want to add the tasks and sub-tasks associated with the lab. If they are time sensitive, make sure you add a due date so you can easily keep track of how much time you have left to complete. Vista List will automatically turn these due dates into a countdown timers. You can select the task from the list for more details. You can also swipe to the right to quickly see how much time you have left or swipe to the left for quick actions. Read this tutorial for more information on Vista List’s quick actions.
In Vista List, you can also add reminders by selecting the alarm icon when adding / editing a task. You can then select what day and time you want to be reminded. This is good for those little tasks like ‘swap out the chemicals’.
When you are all complete, you can go back to the home screen. Vista List will show you the tasks that are due the soonest so you can quickly see what has to be done. If you have multiple tasks that are due in less than 24 hours, Vista List will show them on the home screen.
Now you are ready to go and start your lab! As you complete each part of the lab, check off the task. You’ll see your progress get closer and closer to 100% so you can easily keep track of the amount of work left.
As you see the countdown timer tick down, you’ll feel a sense of urgency to get it done and you’ll always be on track. With Vista List, there are no excuses to turn in your lab late because you’ll know exactly how much time you have left, all the time. If you task or project is due in less than 24 hours, Vista List will turn the countdown orange. If you are overdue, the countdown will turn red and continue to countdown letting you know how overdue you are.
